The Grand Prize Winner:

This year, the Grand Prize of $4,000 in cash will be given to the finalist that our community decides is most deserving.

The Finalists:

After the jam period closes at the end of October, our nine panelists will each nominate one game to move forward into the finals. Besides winning a shot at bagging the Grand Prize, each finalist will be given the opportunity to pitch for a publishing contract to develop a web or mobile-friendly indie game (either their ISR entry, or something else that they’ve made) for Defy Media’s Game Publishing group, with distribution on Addicting Games, Shockwave, and the 150-million strong Defy Media network.

Indie Speed Run is all about opportunity, so while your pitch isn’t guaranteed to be picked up, you will have your shot at a big opportunity–a great first step toward doing this for a living. When the time comes, we suggest you make the best of it!

The Specialists:

Two special award categories will be judged by panels composed of Indie Speed Run crew-members and the sponsors attached to the award. By entering Indie Speed Run, you’re automatically eligible for both of these awards and could win both of them. Or, both of them and the Grand Prize (for the math-shy, that’s $5,000.)

Prize: $500 and a full Houdini Indie license for every team member.
Presented by: Houdini

The winner of Houdini’s BEST 3D ART award will have excelled at making an incredible 3D game that’s as wonderful to look at as it is to play. All teams producing 3D games will have a shot at winning, but we’d definitely recommend using that free Houdini license you got (you do have that, right?) to make sure your art style shines. To see more about Houdini, and what it does, make sure you take a look at the bottom of this page.

Prize: $500
Presented by:

This one should be pretty self-explanatory. We’re looking for a browser-based game of any genre that we just can’t stop playing. Our small team plays through each and every game made as part of Indie Speed Run with no timer on the experience other than “holy crap, we have how many left to get through?” to guide us. For this award, we want to find the game that keeps us clicking, pressing, or whatever the heck your entry makes us do. The Most Addicting Game winner will be punchy, engaging, and ludicrously fun–the same sort of stuff you see up on, which you can read more about at the bottom.

No matter where you place in Indie Speed Run, you’re going home with three things:

1) A 30-day Unity license, issued at sign up.

2) A 90-day Houdini license (which you can snag right now!)

3) A game. That might sound like code for the “participation ribbon,” but it’s not. Giving yourself a reason to throw everything else aside and take the time to produce a new game is what this whole thing’s all about.

Just who are these sponsor folk anyway?

Unity is one of the world’s most advanced and widely used game engines. The first 500 ISR Developers will have access to special code allowing them to access a Unity PRO license for the duration of our competition window.
